Murder case registered after Afsheen’s autopsy

MULTAN: The Gulgasht police Multan have registered a murder case against unknown relatives of 20-year-old Afsheen Musarrat for allegedly taking her life in what looks like a possible honour-killing case.

President General Pervez Musharraf had ordered the inquiry into the mysterious death of the girl after taking notice of press reports. The report lodged with the Gulgasht police station Multan by the HRCP Multan Coordinator Rashid Rehman has been converted into FIR after the exhumation and autopsy of the girl’s body held on Monday at Kabirwala. Initial reports suggested that she did not die a natural death, a Multan police official said.

“Initial report suggests she was strangulated, however, the confirmed report is yet to be received by the chemical analyst,” the police officer added. Rashid Rehman had raised apprehensions in the report that the girl might have been electrocuted as her relatives were angry with her as she had escaped with her maternal cousin to Rawalpindi to her uncle after her forced marriage with her paternal cousin.

A bachelor degree-holder in computer sciences, Afsheen died allegedly in mysterious circumstances here in Multan on Nov 10 at her father’s house. Her relatives brought her back from Rawalpindi to Multan and two days after she was reported dead and buried next day in a graveyard in Mari Sahu of Tehsil Kabirwala by her relatives
