‘9,944 cases of violence against women recorded since Jan 08’

ISLAMABAD: As many as 9,944 cases of violence against women were reported in Punjab and the NWFP from January 2008 to May 2009, Women Development Minister Abdul Rashid Godil informed the National Assembly on Monday.

Godil said 9,237 cases of violence against women were reported in Punjab. He said the reported cases of violence against women included murder, honour killings, acid throwing, stove burning, rape, gang-rape, custodial crimes, incest and workplace harassment that included physical, sexual and psychological assault. Punjab also reported 3,674 cases of violence, which were not specifically categorised, while the NWFP recorded 166 such cases.
