5 women elected heads of NA panels

ISLAMABAD – Five women members of the National Assembly have been elected chairpersons to various standing committees in the national assembly.

These women include: Fizza Junejo Defence Production, Noor Jehan Panezai Petroleum and Natural Resources, Meena Ehsan Leghari Tourism, Mehnaz Rafi Women Development and Gul-e-Farkhanda Population Welfare.

Fizza Junejo and Meena Ehsan Leghari come from political families while Noor Jehan Panezai, Mehnaz Rafi and Gul-e-Farkhanda have been active and committed social workers.

Fizza Junejo is the daughter of former (late) Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Khan Junejo while Meena Ehsan Leghari is sister in law (Bhabi) of former President of Pakistan and head of the Millat Party Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari.

Noor Jehan Panezai who comes from Balochistan is a seasoned politician and a former deputy chairperson of Senate.

Mehnaz Rafi is a former TV drama artist, human rights activists and a committed social worker.

Gul-e-Farkhanda comes from a non-political Karachi based family. She has vast experience of media and been actively working for a UK based NGO dedicated to population welfare.
