3-day women’s empowerment workshop next month

KARACHI – The organizers of Young Leaders Conference (YLC), a symposium, that attracted students from abroad, have announced that another high-profile workshop will be held in October. The School of Leadership (SoL) the organization that held the YLC are preparing to hold “Beyond Beauty,” a three-day workshop, from Oct. 8 to 10.

Speaking at a press conference on September 2, Shireen Naqvi, chief (executive of the SoL, explained that “Beyond Beauty” was celebration of women hood “. She said that basic aim was to address all social, personal and potential issues related to women at all levels to teach the skill and confi­dence of living side by side in a male dominated society.

This workshop is a welcome news for the country. While the urban woman enjoys the same perks and benefits, “as their male counterparts, tales of harassment and brutalities from the rural areas of the country continue. The workshop will be attended by 150 participants all of them women. It will also be addressed by prominent women who have achieved distinction in their professional fields. These ladies will address the participants and share their experiences on the difficulties they faced while reaching the top. Some of the more known names are director marketing Daily Times Sanam Taseer, Sindh secretary information Mehtab Rashidi, models Vaneeza Ahmed and Aminah Haq, politicians Nafisa Shah and Dr. Sayeda Malik, human rights activist Bilquis Edhi, human-rights lawyer Asma Jehangir, TV personalities Fatima Suraiyya Bajia, Bushra Ansari, Haseena Moin. Some of these speakers have confirmed their participation. The chief executive of SoL, Shireen Naqvi, said this workshop would begin at nine in the morning and would continue till two past midnight. She said regular breaks ‘would be part of the daily schedule’.
