Man who ‘threw acid on ex-wife’ remanded in judicial custody

A judicial magistrate on Thursday sent a suspect to prison in a case pertaining to allegedly throwing acid on his former wife. Farhan has been booked and arrested for allegedly attacking his former wife with acid within the Pak Colony police station on September 20.

The investigating officer produced the suspect before a judicial magistrate (District West) on the completion of his three-day physical remand and stated that his custody was no longer required for interrogation. The magistrate then sent the suspect to prison and directed the IO to submit a charge sheet against him at the next hearing.

Quoting the victim, the IO said she had separated from the suspect five years back due to domestic issues. On September 20, the suspect threw acid on her face, wounding the right side of her face and right eye. The officer said the statement of the victim had also been recorded under Section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code. An FIR has been registered at the Pak Colony police station on the complaint of the victim.

Court sets free all convicts in Khipro student’s gang-rape case

KARACHI: The judge of an additional sessions Court, Khipro on Thursday ordered to set free all the convicts in the Zainab Bhayo gang-rape case after complainant Dr Bhayo and the victim said they did not want to pursue the case.

The complainant of the case, Dr Mohammad Amin Bhayo, and victim Zainab Bhayo appeared before the court of additional session’s judge of Khipro town, district Sanghar and recorded their statements in favour of the convicts.

In 2019 the Additional Sessions Judge Khipro, Inayatullah Bhutto had awarded capital punishment to the accused including Danish, Jahanzeb and Wasim Rajput and handed down life term of 25 years with rigorous punishment to Suhail Ahmed Rajput. They had subjected a young girl to gang-rape in a locality of Khipro town, recorded the entire ordeal of the victim and then shared the video on different sites of internet way in 2010. According to the local sources, the relatives of the convicted persons pressurised the family of the victim reportedly through the tribal chief of the victim Bhayo family.

The sources further said the chief of Bhayo tribe allegedly, after imposing the fine of Rs10 million on the convicts, asked the people of his community not to create hurdles in the legal procedures. The relatives of the convicts, after filing a petition in the circuit bench of Sindh High Court, Hyderabad managed to transfer the case for fresh hearing at the court of Khipro town, where Illamuddin Janwari, Additional Sessions Judge, Khipro ordered to set free all the convicts after complainant Dr Bhayo and victim Zainab Bhayo herself recorded their statements, saying that they did not want to pursue the case and they had already pardoned the tormentors.

The judge, in his detailed verdict issued on Thursday, stated that all four persons, were exonerated of all the charges in the light of the statements and counter pleas of the lawyers from both sides.

Beggar girl gang-raped by six persons

LAHORE: A beggar girl kidnapped from Sundar area six days back managed to escape from the clutches of the kidnappers and reached Lahore from Haveli Lakha.

However, police could not recover the victim’s brother who was also kidnapped. Six persons had abducted a 14-year-old beggar girl (E) and her six-year-old brother Imran at gunpoint, took them to Haveli Lakha and gang-raped the girl at gunpoint for six days. The girl managed to escape and reached Lahore. She informed her father about the whole matter. On receiving the information, the police registered a case and started searching for the accused. The victims’ father Rangu said that Shahbaz, Naveed, Ramzan, M Teddi along with their accomplices had kidnapped his daughter along with his son. He said that his son was still in their possession of accused and his life was in danger. He appealed to the higher authorities to arrest the accused and recover his son.

Speeding bike kills boy: A three-year-old boy was killed by a speeding motorcycle in Baghbanpura police area on Thursday. The victim Hanzla, a resident of Sukh Nehar Baghbanpura, was crossing the road along with his father when a rashly driven motorcycle coming from behind hit them, as a result of which both father and son were seriously injured. The motorcycle rider escaped from the scene. The injured were shifted to the hospital where Hanzla succumbed to his injuries, while the father’s condition was said to be out of danger. On receiving the information, the police registered a case against the unknown motorcyclist on the complaint of the victim’s mother and started searching for the accused bike rider.

BOOKED: Chung police registered a murder case against a man for killing his wife 15 years ago. Hanifan Bibi, a resident of Faisalabad, filed an application in Chung police station that her daughter Tabasum Shahzadi eloped with M Siddique 15 years ago. She settled in Sher Shah Colony Chung and ended up contact with her. A few days ago, when she reached Sher Shah Colony looking for her, her son-in-law was upset to see her. When she asked him about her daughter, he started making excuses. On the request of the woman, the police took the accused Siddique into custody and interrogated him. The accused revealed that after killing his wife, he cut the body into pieces and threw them at different places.

Man found dead: A 50-year-old man was found dead in the limits of Kahana police on Thursday. Locals spotted the body lying dead on the footpath in Toor village Kahana and informed the police. Police said that the deceased, yet to be identified, was an addict who might have died of excessive use of drugs. Police shifted the body to the mortuary for autopsy.

Security guard indicted for torture on pregnant maid

A court has indicted a security guard on charges of beating up a pregnant woman in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. Muhammad Dawood has been charged with physically assaulting housemaid Sana Akram over a trivial matter within the jurisdiction of the Sharea Faisal police station on August 8.

When the case came up for hearing, the judicial magistrate-XXXII (East) read out charges to the accused who pleaded not guilty and opted to contest them. The magistrate then summoned prosecution witnesses to record their testimonies with a direction to the investigating officer to ensure their presence in the court at on next hearing slated for October 6. The accused was also told to attend the proceedings.

Dawood was booked and arrested after CCTV footage of him beating up the woman went viral on social media. He is currently out on bail. Apart from Dawood, Abdul Nasir, Adil Khan and Mehmood Khalil, members of the union of a residential project where the incident took place were named in the FIR lodged on the complaint of the victim. However, the court discharged them from the case on the IO’s recommendation.

The investigating officer charge-sheeted the security guard for the offences he allegedly committed under section 337-A(i) (shajjah-i-khafifah), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

According to content of the FIR, the woman, a resident of Bin Qasim Town, worked as a housemaid at a flat in the building where her son, Sohail, had arrived on August 5 to give her food items, but he was stopped by some union members of the building.

She added that as she protested over her son not being allowed to enter the building, one of the union members, Adil, misbehaved with her and directed security guard Dawood to deal with her, after which he hit her. She said she was six months pregnant and fell unconscious after she was manhandled by the security guard.

Women’s chamber elects new president

Islamabad: Prominent businesswoman Rizwana Asif has been elected unopposed as President of the Islamabad Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI).

The annual general meeting of IWCCI was held after which the election results were announced in which Rizwana Asif was elected as President while Sonia Saleem was elected as SVP and Sehrish Ahsan was elected as VP.

Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplaces Kashmala Tariq and MNA Sajida Zulfiqar were present as chief guests. They took oath from newly-elected office bearers and assured all help to the women entrepreneurs so that they can do their business with peace of mind.

Later in her speech, Rizwana Asif said that she is grateful for the trust of businesswomen and she will try her best to fulfil the trust by serving women without discrimination and in every possible way.
