10 held in Taslim Solangi case

SUKUR/KHAIRPUR: Khairpur police on Thursday arrested 10 people for interrogation about Tasleem Solangi murder after the Supreme Court had rejected a police report in the case and ordered reinvestigation.

The Supreme Court, after taking a suo motu notice of the murder case, directed the Sindh police IG for reinvestigating the case. And the IG told the Khairpur DPO to open the case again.

A heavy contingent of police raided different places and arrested 10 people of the Solangi community, including Wada Machyoon Union Council Nazim Saleem Solangi, landlord Ghulam Mustafa Solangi, Tapedar Ellahi Bux Solangi and Mumtaz Solangi.

Tasleem Solangi was murdered in March 2008 in Hajna Shah village near Pir jo Goth. Her father Gulsher Solangi alleges that accused had unleashed dogs at his daughter before killing her. Her husband Ibrahim Solangi was also nominated in the case.

Many inquiries have been held in the matter.

SOLINGIS’ PROTEST: After the arrest of their clansmen, hundreds of Solangis blocked the National Highway near Shah Hussain Chowk in Khairpur for about five hours.

Raising slogans against Khairpur police, they set ablaze logs and tyres on both the tracks of the highway blocking it for vehicular traffic. Commuters faced hardships and vehicular traffic was diverted to Therhi via Ranipur route.

Local PPP leaders negotiated with the protesters, but they refused to disperse.

A leader of the PPP and nephew of the Sindh chief minister, Syed Amjad Ali Shah Jeelani, also reached the scene and negotiated with the protesters. On his assurance of providing them justice, the blockade was ended.
