Workshop held on issues of women land grantees

SUKKUR: A district level consultative workshop was jointly organised by the Participatory Development Initiatives (PDI) and Oxfam on the issues of women land grantees at a local hotel.

PDI Program Manager Land Rights Sattar Zangaijo said that in Gharhi Khairo Sindh government had granted land to 198 women, however influential feudal lords with the support of the revenue department’s officers had cancelled the land lease of 76 women.

Zangaijo said that Sindh government was not providing irrigation water under the Agricultural Support Package to the women land grantees.

The women land grantees of Larkana and Shikarpur were totally deprived of the Agricultural Support Package, he said.

Participants reiterated upon the government to address the issues of women land grantees especially forced occupation on the granted land in the district.

Participants of workshop said that civil society representatives lauded the Sindh government bold initiatives to distribute land among the poor women peasants and viewed that there was an urgent need of resolving the issue of forced evacuation of poor land grantees in the district Shikarpur.
