Women’s Day observed in interior Sindh

HYDERABAD: Rallies and seminars marked the International Women’s Day in interior Sindh on Sunday. On the occasion, the demand was made to end violence against women and action was sought against the culprits involved in the violence.
The Women Action Forum staged a demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club. Activists of the civil society chanted slogans against the Jirga system and the incidents of honour killings.
They called for the authorities to stop atrocities against women.Amar Sindhi, Irfana Mallah and others led the demonstration. They demanded of the government to support the victims of violence against women and provide better facilities to working women.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party took out a rally outside the press club. Participants of the rally chanted slogans against woman abuse and demanded action against the culprits involved in violence against women.
Holding banners and placards, the participants also demanded repeal of discriminatory laws against women and called for implementation of the existing laws to empower the women.
Our Larkana correspondent adds: The Women’s Day was observed in Larkana, Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobababd, Dadu, Khairpur, Sukkur, Hyderabad and other districts of interior Sindh on Sunday.
Various women’s rights groups and organisations held a series of programmes to highlight the struggle of women for achieving equality, justice, peace and development. The Liberal Forum Pakistan, Ghazi Social Welfare Association, Health and Education Society, Falak Women Welfare Organisation, Justice and Peace Commission, Women and Child Rights Committee, Community Development Network Forum, Mehran Social Welfare Association, Al-Nisa, Ladies Club Larkana, The Best, Pakistan Medical Association, Paras, Goth Sudhar Sangat, HEAL and other outfits held rallies, discussions and cultural programmes to mark the day.
