Women varsity campus to be set up in former Fata, says Bangash

PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash said here on Wednesday that government decided to establish campus of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University in tribal districts to enable girl students of the region to get higher education in their home town.

He was addressing the sixth convocation of SBBWU wherein 39 gold medals were awarded to the students of the university and six gold medals to the students enrolled in affiliated colleges.

Degrees were awarded to 300 registered students out of 1,184 passed out candidates from different sessions of bachelor of studies, masters, MPhil and PhD.

Mr Bangash said that it was a moment of pride to see Pakhtun women excelling and acquiring degrees of higher education.

He said that government was asking universities to work on employability of the students and their exposure apart from bookish knowledge where they might be exposed to practical life in their relative academic fields.

However, he said, SBBWU was already contributing to that vision and its vice-chancellor must be appreciated for her efforts along with her team.

He added that keeping in view the services and dedication of staff and quality of education imparted to girl students, the government decided to open campus of the university in the newly-merged tribal districts so that the students could be enabled to acquire quality education.

Mr Bangash said that government set a record by opening 30 colleges across the province in one year. He said that government would extend all possible support to SBBWU.

Vice-chancellor Prof Razia Sultana said that the university had been striving for 17 years for women empowerment.

She said that 80 per cent of the faculty members of the university were PhD with foreign degrees and they were not just teaching the students but also preparing them to become future leaders.

She said that the university was currently working on 29 research projects. She thanked government for extending support to the university and selecting it for the pilot project under Kamyab Jawan Programme.

The degrees were awarded to the students by Kamran Bangash and Prof Razia Sultana in the presence of controller examinations and registrar of the university.
