Women University Bagh’s role in education hailed

MIRPURAzad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan has said the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Women University Bagh is the unique institution of its own kind in AJK since it is imparting quality higher education to women to empower them economically and socially.

The president made these remarks while presiding over the 10th Senate meeting of the University of Bagh held at Jammu and Kashmir House on Monday.

Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Haleem Khan briefed the president about the administrative and academic issues pertaining to the university.

President Masood said the students of the university have showed excellent results in a short span of time after the inception of the university in 2014 and all credit goes to VC and the members of his team.

Masood said education of women plays a vital role in prosperity and development of the country, adding that the government has been taking all possible steps to provide equal opportunities of higher education to women to address the issue of gender inequality in education sector.

Praising the efforts of the university management for digitisation of library resources, the president said he feels gratified to know that university’s library has collected large number of both hard and electronic copies of the books.

He expressed his hope that the management would go a step further to help shape the future of young students by establishing close interaction with other institutions of higher studies in the country, investing more in research and innovation and constructing the permanent campus of the university.    Masood directed the management of the university to ensure transparency and merit in recruitment, admissions and promotions to bring the standard of the university at par with other institutions of the country.

It was also directed to introduce modern cutting-edge disciplines in the university keeping in view their demand and utility in the job market.

He said education should be aimed to inculcate core ethical values, such as responsibility, honesty and fairness and respect for self and others.
