‘Women entrepreneurs should promote economy’

KARACHI: There lies huge potential and opportunities for women in business and trade which the women of Pakistan should explore to promote economy of the country in the time of financial crisis.

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Anjum Nisar stated this while speaking at a meeting in chamber on Tuesday. “KCCI is willing to provide support to women entrepreneurs to help them in their businesses. Besides jewellery and clothes women should also take interest businesses like halal products and horticulture,” he added.

The KCCI Women Entrepreneurs Sub-Committee Chairperson, Durre Shahwar Nisar said that business women should take care of the country’s image while representing Pakistan abroad. Business women present at the meeting also stressed at the need of good conduct and quality products for fortifying the image of Pakistan.

The chief guest of the occasion, Nargis ND Khan, Minister for Social Welfare, said that there lies huge potential and women skill in the interiors of Sindh which need to be bought into limelight. She said that business women should come up with proposals and ideas to explore this potential. “Islam had given women the right to study and work alongside men and that the Ministry of Social Welfare will extend support to the women entrepreneurs,” she added.

KCCI Banking and Insurance Sub-Committee Chairman, Ateeq-ur-Rahman said that the KCCI was already facilitating micro-financing for women entrepreneurs and now it had also convinced banks to give SME loans to women for their businesses.
