Woman shaved, paraded in streets

LAYYAH: Police registered a case on Monday against four women and a man for shaving the head and eyebrows of their 27-year-old sister-in-law and parading her in the streets of village Serai of Mauza Marhanwali over a domestic dispute.

On the report of violence against Parveen Bibi, Karor police registered a case under several sections of the PPC against Shirin, Jannat, Dilshad Bibi, Ghulam Fatima and Hanif for rioting, committing violence and defaming Parveen and arrested women suspects while Hanif fled.

Parveen who had married Sabir Husain a year back had to leave her house one month ago and take shelter in Darul Aman after a physical brawl with her sisters-in-law Shirin, Jannat and Dilshad.

Her brother Iqbal, who works in Karachi, came to Layyah and took her to Karachi. Sabir reconciled with her and brought her back from Karachi a few days ago. On Monday, the three sisters-in-law and Fatima again had a physical brawl with Parveen. Soon Hanif also joined them and they tied her hands, shaved her head and eyebrows, blackened her face and forced her to parade in the village.

Shirin told Dawn they had taught a lesson to Parveen for her ‘extra-marital affairs’. Parveen denied allegations and said she had to leave her house due to rude behaviour of her in laws.
