Woman seeks protection after freewill marriage

A woman who recently married off her own free will has approached a sessions court, seeking protection from her parents and other family members.

Ayesha filed an application before the District and Sessions Judge (West), naming the SSP West, the SHO of the Docks police station, and her father and other close relatives as respondents.

The applicant stated that she contracted free-will marriage with Abdul Majeed on March 7, which angered her family members, who are searching for the couple in the city. She said that she and her husband went out of the house on March 20 when 10 to 15 men carrying sticks and arms stormed their house, looking for her. She added they came to kill her because she had been condemned as ‘Kari’ in her village. The woman applicant said she and her husband were fearing for their safety, requesting the court to direct the police to provide protection to the couple from her family members.
