Woman killed in Khairpur for suspected illicit relations

SUKKUR: A man axed his sister to death in Khairpur on the charge of illicit relations. Police said that Abdul Sattar Mari in village Ghulam Abbas Mari axed his sister, Rozina Mari, to death and escaped.

There were some reports that the deceased, anticipating being murdered by her brother, had three days ago approached the Kot Diji Police Station for protection. Sources said that the police had presented the girl before a local court where she requested the court to allow her to live with her husband.

Reports said that the court had accepted her plea and ordered the police to protect her. Meanwhile, Ghotki police have booked two people on the charges of sexually assaulting a woman on Wednesday.

The alleged victim, a resident of Baloch Colony of Daharaki, along with her mother, protested before the Dahariki Press Club and alleged that the accused had sexually assaulted her for two days after having kidnapped her at gunpoint and later dumped her outside her house and escaped.

She said she had been living with her mother after separation from her husband recently. Dahariki police registered a case on her complaint. Meanwhile, body of a child was fished out of a canal on Wednesday. The child, Benazir Kalhoro, had been missing for the last two days. Police were investigating into the circumstances leading to the child falling into the river. They were trying to ascertain whether this was simply an accident or something more sinister.

Meanwhile, police said that unidentified men axed a youth, Manzoor Mahar, to death in Rohri. Police suspected the incident to be a result of Karo Kari. They said they had been interrogating some suspects.
