Woman identifies her kidnapper in court

KARACHI, July 12: A woman kidnapped on April 29 in the limits of the Gizri police station and released after payment of Rs2 million as ransom appeared in the court of judicial magistrate (South) Asif Ahmed on Saturday and recognised her kidnapper in an identification parade.

The woman, Mahnaz, along with her husband, Umer Naveed, recognised the accused, Mohammad Ikramullah, who is facing a trial in the kidnapping for ransom case.

According to the prosecution, Ikramullah had kidnapped the woman on April 29 and released her when a sum of Rs2 million was paid to him as ransom.

The case was registered under Section 356-A of the Criminal Procedure Code at the Gizri police station on the complaint of her husband. The accused was arrested on June 10.

The same court remanded two suspects into police custody till July 14 in a human trafficking case.

The accused, Mirza Atif Baig and Nadeem Ahmed, were arrested by the FIA’s crime circle. They were charged with sending people abroad on fake documents and charging more than Rs1 million per head for the purpose.

Kidnap and murder case

The Anti-Terrorism Court-II on Saturday recorded statement of the medico-legal officer (MLO) of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a kidnapping and murder case.

The MLO, Dr Iftikhar Memon, told the court headed by Abdul Ghafoor Memon that he had conducted post-mortem examination of the body of the victim, Kamal, 21, and confirmed that his death was caused by the injuries inflicted on him.

Kamal’s body was found dumped near the Premier College by the North Nazimabad police on February 14. His identity was established the next day,

According to initial investigation, Kamal, son of Abdul Haq, was abducted and killed allegedly by Abul Kalam and his son, Abdul Razzaq. One of their relatives, Mahajil Hussain, has also been nominated as the accomplice in the offence. However, he has been declared absconder.
