Woman gunned down for honour

RAWALPINDI: A woman was gunned down allegedly by her uncle and brother-in-law in the name of honour at her parents` house in Saddar Bairooni area on Friday, police said.

Tayyaba Shahzadi, in her early 20s, was married to Sohail a year ago but shortly afterwards relations between them started to soar due to domestic issues.

Police said sometimes after her marriage, she eloped with another man. However, she was brought back after being convinced by her brother and later started living with her parents.

In his complaint, the victim`s father, Mohammad Fayyaz, said he was at home while his daughter, Tayyaba, was taking bath when her uncle Raziq Kiani and her brother-in-law Mohammad Tahir came there and asked about her.

When he told them that she was taking a bath, they broke into the washroom and gunned her down. Both the accused then escaped from the scene. The body of the victim was handed over to her parents after the postmortem.
