LAHORE: Police found on Tuesday the body of a 22-year-old woman lying in a room in South Cantonment, and believe that she may have been shot dead in an honour killing. The police said that the victim, yet to be identified, lived in a one-room apartment in Nadirabad, which she had rented without giving any details.
The police said that the deceased might have eloped with someone and started living there after contracting a love marriage. They said that investigations had revealed that the property dealer did not follow proper procedure while renting out the apartment, as he had no document to identify the occupant(s) of the room.
He told the police that a man, namely Faisal, used to pay frequent visits to the victim. Ashraf Awan, one of the policemen working on the case, said that circumstantial evidence implied that the girl wanted to live in secret, as there was nothing in her room that could lead to her identification. He said that the victim’s family might have traced her and killed her over honour.
