Woman files rape case in Sui’

QUETTA, Sept 14: Police registered on Sunday a case against four persons, including two personnel of the Defence Security Guards deployed for security of the main Sui gas plant, on the charge of sexually assaulting a woman in Sui town.

“We have registered an FIR against two personnel of the DSG and two Pakistan Petroleum Limited employees on the complaint of a widow, Firdous Bibi,” a senior police officer told Dawn by telephone.

Firdous Bibi, the widow of PPL employee Mohammad Ayub, had complained that four people had forcibly entered her house and raped her. “They entered my house and raped me,” said the mother of seven in a written statement.

She identified the accused as Saghir Haider and Shera Khan of the DSG and Jamshaid Chawla and Farooq Pasha of the PPL.

PPL officials denied that any incident of rape had taken place. They said Ms Bibi was living in a house provided by the PPL even though her husband had died several years ago.

They said that the PPL authorities had recently issued a notice, asking Ms Bibi to vacate the house provided by the PPL. They alleged that the woman concocted the rape story after receiving the notice.

However, police were investigating and a medical examination of the complainant would be carried out, the sources said.

It may be recalled that four years ago a doctor working for the PPL had been raped in the same area. That incident had triggered a heavy exchange of fire between security forces and tribesmen.
