Karachi: A woman was killed and her husband injured in an incident of domestic violence at their Model Colony residence on Thursday.
Police said 35-year-old Zohra Saleem suffered serious injuries and later died at a hospital after her husband slit her throat with a pair of scissors during a brawl between the couple at their house in the Moinabad locality.
Shah Faisal Division SP Javed Aslam said the initial investigation had revealed that a scuffle between the husband and wife had erupted, during which one of them attacked the other with a pair of scissors.
The husband, Muhammad Saleem, also suffered serious injuries and is under treatment at a hospital in Model Colony.
The SP said Zohra was Saleem’s second wife. Quoting the couple’s neighbours, the officer said they used to quarrel a lot.
Four people were injured when a hand grenade carried by gangsters accidentally exploded in the Kalakot locality of Lyari.
SHO Safdar Mashwani said two gangsters associated with the Maab Baloch group of the Uzair Baloch gang were riding a motorbike when a hand grenade carried by them fell on the ground near the Gabol Park and exploded.
Four passers-by were injured in the incident. They were provided with necessary medical treatment at nearby clinics and were discharged before the arrival of the police.
The SHO ruled out the possibility of an attack, saying the grenade had exploded accidentally, adding that the police were searching for the gangsters responsible.
MWM activist dies
A university student who was wounded in an attack a few days ago succumbed to his bullet injuries at a hospital.
Twenty-two-year-old Zain Abbas, a resident of Block 13 of Federal B Area, was under treatment at a private hospital after he was injured when hitherto unidentified assailants had shot him four times in Block 2 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Monday.
A spokesman for the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) said Abbas was an activist of the party and termed his murder part of the ongoing sectarian violence.
