Wife strangled to death ‘over dowry’

LAHORE: A 24-year-old woman was strangled to death by her husband in South Cantt police area over a domestic dispute, while five people including two women were killed in different incidents across the city on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Tahira Bibi wife of Tahir ul Hussan, resident of Bhatta Chowk. Police said that victim had married Tahir three years ago but her husband and in laws quarrelled with her over dowry. On the day of incident, they exchanged hot words with the victim and later strangled her to death. Police has registered a case against accused Tahir ul Hasaan on the complaint of Tahira’s brother Tahir but no arrests have been made so far.

A father of two committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in Nawab Town police jurisdiction.

The deceased, identified as Shahid was aresident of 370 H2 Johar Town and worked at a private bank. Police said Shahid locked himself up in a room and did not open the door despite repeated knocking by his family members. When they broke down the door, they saw him dead. Investigators said the motive remains unclear but may be his inability to pay back debts.

A 25-year-old man died of electrocution in Shahdra police limits.

The victim was identified as Ashraf, resident of Imamia Colony. He was busy checking a cable wire out side his house when he accidentally touched a live wire. He was rushed to a local hospital where he expired. The body was handed over to the deceased’s family after completing legal formalities.

A 30-year-old woman was found dead in Miani Sab graveyard Mozang police limits.

The deceased was identified as Sikena Bibi, resident of Amin Park Shafiqabad. Police said the victim was a drug addict.

A mother of three, died after being hit by a train in Shahdra Town police limits.

Police said Arfana Bibi, resident of Muhammad Nagar Ghari Shahu was crossing the railway track near Shahdra Railway Station when she was hit by a train. She expired at the hospital. Police handed over the body to her heirs after legal procedures.

A 40-year-old man, whose identity could not be ascertained, was crushed to death by a speeding car in the limits of Naulakha police.

Police said that unknown man was crossing main road near Railway Station when an unidentified rashly driven car hit him and escaped. The injured was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Police has registered a case against unknown driver and shifted the body to city morgue.
