Vocational training for female inmates in Timergara

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the support of Netherlands to establish vocational training centres for female inmates in Timergara Jail.

According to a press statement issued by Baitul Mal on Tuesday, the multilateral agreement has been signed by the Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM), Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (DTCE), Timergara Jail Lower Dir and the Malakand Division under the Public Safety and Justice programme of DTCE. The training centres will be introduced as a pilot project to ensure women inmates learn productive skills during their prison term.

Speaking on the occasion, PBM MD Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh said this project will be a milestone in the empowerment of inmates and provide them with vocational skills which will also help enhance their self-image. Ambassador of Kingdom of Netherlands in Pakistan Marcel De Vink lauded the project as an important step to impart useful skills to female prisoners who are vulnerable to various forms of abuse.
