US was ready to free Dr Aafia but previous govt did not care

KARACHI: On the sixth day of Geo News special transmission ‘Aman Ramazan’, Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, the sister of the incarcerated Dr Aafia Siddqui in a US jail, made a startling revelation while talking to the host Dr Amir Liaqat Hussain that the US wanted to free Aafia and had even made an offer that she could serve the remaining part of her imprisonment in Pakistan. However, the former federal government did not fulfil its responsibilities, otherwise Aafia would have been with us today.

Fauzia also revealed that Maryam, the missing daughter of Aafia, was dropped by a mysterious white car near their house. She said that this happened a week after the matter was discussed by Interior Minister Rehman Malik with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

This was for the first time that brother and sister –Ahmad and Maryam were guests at such a big transmission. Ahmad became emotional while talking about his mother and said that they missed her a lot.

Dr Amir Liaqat Hussain expressed the hope that the government would fulfil the high sounding promises made to the nation during the elections and would ensure the release of

Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

In the segment “Rahe Neki’ the show was flooded with calls to help the family of a woman suffering from fatal Hepatitis C. Similarly, donations were announced for former stage performer Shabbirul Hasan who is suffering from an acute lungs disease. Both were also offered cash on behalf of Mahmooda Foundation.

Prizes worth lakhs of rupees through draw were distributed even on the sixth day of the transmission. The prizes were in the shape of motorcycles and other valuable items.
