ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) and UNICEF will launch a joint initiative in District Chitral with the aim to meet the nutrition and health needs of children and women, especially in the extreme weather conditions.
Managing Director PBM, Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh and Deputy Representative UNICEF Cristian Mundate signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard at a signing ceremony held at PBM head office, Islamabad.
Addressing on the occasion, Waheed said that this project seeks to further strengthen the existing partnership between PBM and UNICEF ongoing since long, evidenced by the successful execution of an education conditional cash transfer (CCT) through PBM’s Child Support Programme.
He further informed that after the massive earthquake of 2015, the government as part of its humanitarian response announced a comprehensive package to support families in KPK who experience death, injury or damage to housing.
District Chitral, being one of the most affected districts overall, with highest house damage and having the greatest number of injuries, has been selected for financial compensation i.e. Rs.3000/- among as many as 17,000 poorest of the poor families of the district.
The MD PBM said that it was an impressive move that an international organization like UNICEF in Pakistan is making its valuable contribution for the uplift of the underprivileged people along with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.
Talking on the occasion Ms. Cristian Mundate showed her confidence and trust in PBM ability to serve the poor community. She explained that this new initiative in District Chitral will help in realizing the nutrition and health needs of children and women, especially in extreme weather conditions.
