BAHAWALPUR / MULTAN: Two women were murdered in Seetal Mari and Satpur police precincts on Monday and Tuesday. Seetal Mari police said Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Chiniot, had strangled his wife whom he had accused of having an affair with a neighbour. They said Aslam had married Nazia Bibi, 30, a resident of Cheechawatni, five years ago. They had moved to Seetal Mari, Multan district, after their marriage. Aslam had suspected his wife of having an affair with a neighbour. Police said they had quarrelled about it on Tuesday after which he had strangled her. An FIR was registered against Aslam on a complaint filed by Nazia Bibi’s family. Police said they had arrested Aslam and had interrogated him. “He has confessed to the crime,” a police spokesperson said.
Separately, Nadeem, a resident of Satpur, near Rahim Yar Khan, is accused of murdering his wife Asiya Bibi on Monday. The woman’s father Saifullah, a resident of the same area, told police that his daughter had proposed an exchange marriage but her husband had refused. Saifullah told the police that Nadeem and Asiya Bibi had married without the consent of their parents two years ago. He said that Asiya Bibi had wanted her sister-in-law to marry her brother in order to pacify her family, but Nadeem had rejected the idea.
Saifullah said that he had received a phone call on Monday that Nadeem and his friend Fateh Muhammad had murdered Nazia Bibi. Satpur SHO Muhammad Ayub Khan Lodhi went to Nadeem’s house and took the body into custody. The police took it to a rural health centre for post-mortem examination and later handed it over to her family for burial. Lodhi said they had registered a case against the two suspects and were looking for them.
