Two men detained in child rape case

FAISALABAD: Rajana police have detained two men nominated a child rape case but are waiting for the DNA examination report to register their arrest.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday after relatives of the child staged a demonstration in front of the police station. They accused the police of taking a bribe from the suspects. SHO Bahar Hussain Bhatti rejected the bribery allegations. However, he said, the police had not detained the suspect until after the demonstration arranged by the complainant’s family.

Sub inspector Muhammad Sarwar, the investigation officer, said the arrest would be formally registered later. “We have sent medical samples for a DNA examination,” he said. The station house officer said the suspect had denied the charges during questioning.

Meanwhile, a medical examination performed on the 14-year-old girl at Toba Tek Singh district headquarters (DHQ) hospital had not found any evidence of sexual assault. Doctors said there were no signs of torture on the body.

On Wednesday, Abdur Rasheed, father of the girl and the complainant in the FIR, had alleged that the suspect’s family was threatening him with dire consequences if he did not withdraw the FIR registered in the matter.

Rasheed, and other residents of Chak 249-GB, stayed in front of the police station until a police team assured them of prompt action against the suspect.
