LANDIKOTAL: Unknown people blew up two government girls primary schools late Sunday night in Khyber area of Landikotal tehsil, but no casualty was reported in the incidents.

Official and local sources said on Monday that the explosive devices planted in the Government Girls Primary School (GGPS), Merikhel and Government Girls Primary School, Matakhel, Khyber Agency, went off late at night.

The schools’ structures were destroyed. However, no human loss was reported as no one was there at the time of the blast. Officials of the local administration and security forces later visited the sites, collected evidence and started investigation.

According to the watchmen, several gunmen forced their entry into the schools and planted explosive devices in the rooms and boundary walls of the schools. No arrests were made till the filing of this report.

A day earlier in another incident, security forces foiled a terrorism bid by defusing nine heavy bombs planted at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Landikotal. Meanwhile, the security forces started a search operation in some areas of Jamrud tehsil for which they closed the Pak-Afghan Highway at Teddy Bazaar to avoid any mishap, official sources said.

The blockade of the busy highway proved a headache for passengers. Hundreds of Nato-supply trucks and oil tankers were sent back from Jamrud for security reasons during the search operation, the officials said.
