Two couples were gunned down in the name of ‘honour’ in two separate incidents and another one has demanded protection from the same fate after contracting a free-will marriage.

In Jacobabad district, Sikandar Brohi, allegedly shot dead his daughter, Reshma, and her friend, Dost Ali Jakhrani, in the name of honour, within the limits of the Tajo Dero police station on Tuesday.

According to the police, Sikandar was helped by some of his associates in committing the crime.

The bodies were taken to a government health facility for a post-mortem examination and then handed over to their respective heirs.

In Bagerji town of Sukkur district, a man, Wazir Shar, allegedly shot dead his 17-year-old niece, Waziran Shar, and 18-year-old youth, Rashid Shar, in Subhanallah Colony, within the jurisdiction of the Tamachanni police station.

The suspect then surrendered himself before the police along with crime weapon.

A couple, Ali Raza Khaskheli and Rashida Khaskheli, appeared before a group of journalists in Khairpur and sought their help in saving their lives.

They said they had contracted a freewill marriage in a civil court in Sukkur a few days ago and since then they had been receiving death threats from their relatives.

They said they had to go into hiding to save their lives.

Ali Raza claimed that Rashida’s relatives had now been holding several of his women family members along with their children hostage to force them (the couple) to return home and face the punishment (death).

They said they were residents Sajawal village located within the Faiz Ganj taluka of Khairpur district.

They appealed to the Sukkur DIG and Khairpur police to ensure their protection.
