Three women of a family stabbed to death

LAHORE: An unidentified assailant stabbed three women, including a teenager, to death at their house in Ghulam Hussian Park, Gol Bagh, in Shadbagh on Monday.

Locals found Taj Bibi, 75, her daughter Tasleem Qadir Mirza, 50, and 18-year-old granddaughter Sana Mirza with multiple wounds apparently caused by a sharp-edged weapon in different rooms of their single-storey house after Iftar and informed the police.City Division Investigations SP Qasier Bashir Makhdoom told Dawn the police were informed by a neighbour that three women were lying dead at their home. He said the cursory examination of the crime scene suggested that the suspect had stayed with the victims for at least six to seven hours before killing the women and fleeing safely.

However, City Division SP Zeeshan Asghar Malik said some neighbours, who were present in the street, witnessed a man leaving the house hurriedly and running towards the main road.

He said the police did not find the weapon of offence from the spot. He also ruled out any chance of robbery as cash and valuables were not taken away.

He suspected that the assailant knew the family well which smacked of some family conflict behind the gruesome incident.

He said Tasleem, who was at estrangement with her husband Qadir Mirza said to be settled in a foreign country, had been living with her mother. Her brothers are also settled in the United Kingdom.

He said the family had been contacted in the United Kingdom and some of them would be arriving on Tuesday evening.

Usman, a local, told Dawn that he informed the police after he and some other neighbours first found the door of the house locked and later saw a man fleeing from the house.

Soon after the incident, senior police officers rushed to the scene, conducted forensic examination and held initial inquiries with the neighbours.

Dawn has learnt that family people had told the interrogators that Arif, a faith healer of Pammay Jhugian, Bund Road, would visit the family frequently. They also suspected Arif’s involvement in the triple-murder. When the police raided Arif’s house late in the evening, it was found locked.

The police sent the bodies for autopsies and launched a thorough probe into the blind murders.
