Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Medical Superintendent sent to jail for torturing nurse

TOBA TEK SINGH: A Shorkot civil judge with powers as judicial magistrate handed down on Saturday one-year imprisonment to Shorkot Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Safdar Abbas in a case registered against him on February 2020 for torturing a charge nurse, making her footage and posting it social media.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had taken notice of the footage in which the MS who was then the hospital’s senior medical officer (SMO) was seen torturing nurse Rubina Naz. On CM’s order, an inquiry was carried out by the then Jhang district health authority chief executive officer Dr Mahboob Qureshi and a case was registered on the application of the nurse by the Shorkot City police.

In her complaint, Ms Rubina had complained that SMO Dr Abbas had come to her room and asked her to go with him for a round of the hospital wards before her duty time. As she was lifting files of patients, he started making the video on his mobile phone camera. When she stopped him from doing so, he tortured her.

An additional district and sessions judge had granted bail before arrest to Dr Abbas. After announcing one-year imprisonment for the convict, the court on Saturday ordered the police to arrest him and shift him to the Jhang District Jail.
