Teenage girl accuses cops of assault

SUKKUR: A teenage girl was allegedly raped by four men, including policemen, in Ubauro, Ghotki district, four days ago.

R, 15, resident of Punjab and currently residing in Mirpur Mathelo, who visits different towns and villages to sell bangles and clothes, told Ubauro-based journalists that four days ago, two men kidnapped her on gunpoint and took her to Daharki, where they criminally assaulted her for two days.

She said after two days they released her near Ubauro bypass, from where Motorway police picked up and handed her over to the Ubauro police.

She alleged that SHO Ubauro and other police official also raped and later released her.

Brushing aside allegations, SHO Qalab Abbas Shah said that the Motorway police had handed over the girl to them on August 21 and they produced her in the court of district and sessions judge.

The police official said that in her statement before the district and sessions judge, Khadim Hussain Tunio, the girl misguided the court by telling a wrong name. She stated before the court that she wanted to marry Azhar, who resides in Khambhra, the SHO said. According to him, the judge ordered the police to hand the girl over to her parents, after which she was handed her over to Ajmal Bhatti in Zahir Pir area near Rahim Yar Khan.

However, taking notice of the incident, Ghotki DPO Ghazi Salahuddin, has ordered DSP headquarter Mirpur Mathelo Hafiz Abdul Qadir Chachar to conduct an inquiry.

When contacted the DSP said that the girl was telling lies about rape, adding that she had eloped with Azhar.

The DSP said that in her statement before him, the girl’s mother Sakina claimed that Akbar Kalhoro and Asghar Kalhoro had kidnapped her daughter and raped her while the girl was saying that she was raped by unidentified people.
