LAHORE: Sabzazar Police have registered a rape case against a robber on the complaint of his accomplice Fatima Noor, who alleged that she was raped and blackmailed by him a year ago.
Fatima, a resident of Jaranwala, Faisalabad, in her application to the Sabzazar Police stated that she was studying here in a local university where a girl named Naseem became her friend. Naseem introduced Fatima to her brother, Mumtaz Shahzad.
Fatima said that on March 23, 2007, Naseem took her to a house near Kharak Stop, where she met Mumtaz’s friend namely Khurram and three unidentified men.
She alleged that the men intoxicated and raped her, adding that they also recorded the rape on a video camera.
Blackmailing: Fatima said that Mumtaz and his friends started blackmailing her for the video and pictures, and extorted Rs 200,000 and 20 tolas of gold ornaments from her.
She said that Mumtaz made her live at his house 37-A Sabzazar, where she told his family about the incident, but they also blackmailed her and threatened her of dire consequences if she informed anyone about it. She said that she inherited Rs 8 million after the death of her father, which the accused family also ‘looted’ from her.
She said that she gave birth to a child on January 7, 2008 in Jinnah Hospital. She said that Mumtaz had blackmailed several girls from various local universities, and was using them for illegal activities.
Court order and arrest: Sabzazar Station House Officer Qamar Abbas told Daily Times that they had registered the rape case under Section 376-B against Mumtaz and were investigating the matter. He said that the case had been registered on the orders of a Sessions Court judge. Sabzazar Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashiq Jutt said that Fatima was arrested along with two patrolling officers of the National Highway and Motorway Police in a robbery case last month. He said that Mumtaz was one of the officers. He said that the arrested were sent to jail, but Fatima and Mumtaz got bailed out a few days ago.
He alleged that Fatima filed a rape case against Mumtaz after having a clash with him on the issue of the distribution of booty.
He said that initial investigations suggested that all claims made by Fatima in her complaint to the Sessions Court were fabricated. He said that the police had started investigating the matter, and added that the nominated accused was still at large.
Fatima’s lawyer Rana Farhat Ali told Daily Times that Fatima was never arrested in any case. He said that the girl in question was someone else with the same name, Noor Fatima alias Sonia. He alleged that Mumtaz, Khurram and their three unidentified accomplices used to blackmail several girls, who were now working with them.
