Sumaira vows to resolve issues of minorities’ women

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Women Development and Youth Affairs Sumaira Malik said on Sunday that the government was committed to resolve the issues of women belonging to minority groups. She congratulated the Christians community on Christmas and said that the government was making earnest efforts to protect the rights of minorities and their role could not be subtracted from the country’s prosperity. Malik said that the government believed in ensuring equal rights to all citizens of the country, irrespective of their cast, creed and colour. “The minorities enjoy liberty to exercise their rituals, reflecting the presence of tolerance and inter-faith harmony in the country,” she added. Referring to the recently enacted women’s rights protection law, the minister said that it would protect women from discrimination and give them a respectable status in society. She said that her ministry was pursuing several programmes to empower women for national development, like a women’s political school, IT training for women councillors and a gender action reform programme.
