Sparc terms flogging of girl inhumane, unIslamic

ISLAMABAD: Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (Sparc) has strongly condemned the flogging of the girl by extremists in Swat valley and termed it a inhuman act meant to sabotage image of the country. “Such a heinous torture on young girl merely on basis of unproved allegations and without any investigation is highly condemnable Shafique Kandhro, a child rights activist at Sparc said while talking to APP.
Flogging the girl, who is still not an adult under definitions of Article 1 of CRC (Convention of the Rights of Child), which Pakistan has ratified in 1990, is the undermining of child rights, he observed, adding, “even if the girl has done something wrong, she may not be punished in a way that humiliates her but would be punished as stated by the process of juvenile justice.
Nevertheless, the fact remains that the Shariat (Islamic Law) is the most human of all and neither deprives man nor woman from having a fair chance to prove him or herself innocent. Earlier, Pakistan government has ordered the authorities to inquire into the incident and submit a report while Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken suo moto notice of the ugly incident.
