Sherpao asks government to ensure women’s empowerment

PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party Sherpao (PPP-S) Chief Aftab Sherpao has asked the government and non-governmental organisations to take steps for women empowerment and protection of their rights to ensure a peaceful society.

Talking to a delegation led by Aware Girls, a non-governmental organisation working on women awareness and empowerment here on Sunday, he said the government and NGOs should jointly work for the emancipation of women.

PPP-S central executive committee member Mairaj Humayun Khan, MPA Nargis Sameen, Labour-wing in-charge Faqir Hussain and NGO workers were also present on the occasion.The PPP-S chairman said that women constitute half of the total population of Pakistan and efforts should be made to provide education and equal opportunities to them in every sphere of life. Aftab Sherpao said that Islam condemned all kinds of violence against women.

He slammed the government for its failure to rid the nation of the prevailing crises. He said the economy was stagnating due to the energy scarcity and the worsening law and order situation.
