Reports of ban on women shopping in Lakki Marwat rejected

LAKKI MARWAT: District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Riaz on Sunday strongly rejected news reports regarding ban on women visiting markets alone for shopping in Tehsil Sarai Naruang of Lakki Marwat district and termed such reports baseless.

Talking to reporters here, he said there is no ban on woman visiting market alone and shopping around in Tehsil Sarai Naurang.

The District Police Officer said that a meeting on law and order was held the other day, which was attended by the elders of the area, representatives of traders and DSP Sanaullah.

Some elders in the meeting demanded from Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarai Naurang to impose a ban on woman visiting markets, while the police official refused to accede to this demand, he said.

The District Police Officer further said following this meeting some participants on their own spread this rumour that Sarai Naurang DSP has slapped ban on woman visiting markets. He said women can visit bazaars for shopping freely.
