LAHORE: Relatives of a murdered seven-year-old girl blocked the main Sukh Nehar Road on Saturday and demanded stern action against those responsible.
The protesters chanted slogans demanding justice, and a police deployment and Muhafiz force were unable to control them. The Baghbanpura police station house officer (SHO) negotiated with the father of the deceased (Maham), but the women of the family refused leave the road. They vowed to continue the protest unless the police arrested the murderers immediately.
Maham was kidnapped from outside her house near Sukh Nehar Road on Friday morning, raped and strangled. Her body was found near a temple in the Harbanspura area in the afternoon.
Suspects: Neighbours said they were not aware who the murderers were. However, they suspected the involvement of labourers working on a construction project in the locality.
According to reports, Maham had stepped out of the house without telling her mother. When her mother called to her, she received no answer. “I thought she was playing hide and seek with me but I never imagined that she would hide forever,” her mother said.
Maham’s father – Muhammad Amin — said he searched for her in the nearby areas without success.
Maham was the eldest of her siblings, studied in class three and was a brilliant student.
