Rape victim seeks justice

LAHORE: A rape victim has appealed to the president of Pakistan and other authorities to direct the police to register of a case and take action against the accused who allegedly raped her for three days.

Addressing a press conference at the Lahore press club on Sunday, Asma Bibi, daughter of Lal Shah of Baitwasaya Kalarwala, district Layyah, accused the area police of conniving with the accused by declaring them innocent.

Asma said she was on her way back home when allegedly Munna Kasai and Ashraf offered her to drop her at home in Pharpur. Another three persons–Nasir Shah, Sajjad and Munir Ahmad–also got into the car. “They took me to a house and raped me for three days. Meanwhile, I managed to escape and two persons–Muhammad Iqbal and Faiz–helped me in reaching my home,” she said.

The victim said the district and sessions judge Layyah sought the police comments which said no such incident had taken place in their jurisdiction and that all the accused were innocent. “The police even did not medically examine me,” she added.

She said an inquiry conducted by the DCO Layyah proved the allegations against the accused, while another inquiry carried out by the DPO Layyah on the directions of the DIG Dera Ghazi Khan also confirmed the incident.
