Rape victim gets confused during cross examination

Karachi: Kainat Soomro, a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted and later gang-raped, was visibly confused when she was cross-examined on Wednesday in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Nizar Ali Khawaja.
She had recorded a statement at the last hearing and narrated the whole episode but this time she failed to reply during cross-examination. Upon seeing this situation, her counsel submitted an application that her health condition was not good and the hearing be adjourned till next date.
Deputy District Prosecution Officer Abdul Maroof requested the court to direct all irrelevant people to go out of the courtroom owing to the sensitive nature of the case. The court, however, turned down the request and adjourned the hearing till April 7.
The female medico legal officer also did not appear in the court to record her statement.
Red warrants reissued against 8 absconders: District and Sessions Judge Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui reissued red warrants on Wednesday against eight absconders wanted in a money laundering scam and adjourned the hearing till April 16.
In the previous hearing, the court had issued red warrants against these eight absconders, besides directing the jail superintendent to shift Javed Khanani for a medical checkup to the hospital. The MLO report said that Khanani was suffering from heart ailment.
The eight absconders include Javed Qasim, Altaf Khanani, Iqbal Khanani, Atif Polani, Aziz Polani, Amir Zakariya, Arif Zakariya and Javed Polani.
