Karachi: The Sachal police arrested three suspects on Saturday after the girl who was gang raped a day earlier recognised them.
A 12-year-old girl was raped in Abdullah Shah Ghazi Goth on Friday. Her father reported the case to the police, which referred the victim to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The doctors had confirmed the girl was sexually assaulted.
On Saturday, the Sachal police arrested three suspects and paraded them before the rape survivor along with another three men. The girl identified the three offenders, saying they had taken her to a room near a shop in the area and subjected her to sexual abuse.
The arrested men were Sultan Ahmed, a shopkeeper, Haji Bashir, who sells burgers on a pushcart, and Bashir Ahmed, who is a driver.
DIG East Munir Shaikh said the police had sent samples of the suspects for DNA tests. Two more suspects are on the run.
Police said there was no electricity in the neighbourhood when the girl went to the shop to buy something.
Two suspects took her to a nearby room where both of them and another man raped the victim.
The Supreme Court chief justice, Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, has taken suo moto notice of the gang rape case and sought a report from the Sindh police chief within 48 hours.
