Rape of medical student

Islamabad: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) here Monday informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that the Kuala Lampur Interpol of Malaysia has traced the entry of an accused lawyer, Tariq Mehmood, who had allegedly raped his niece an MBBS student and later fled to Malaysia.

FIA submitted before the court of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui its communication with the Malaysian Interpol where the authorities confirmed that the subject accused entered our country on November 23, 2013. Malaysian Interpol has conveyed to its Pakistani counterparts that “We have placed subject on our immigration watch list” and they had been seeking from Pakistan necessary documents via diplomatic channel to initiate extradition process.

FIA told IHC that they have written a letter to the City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi for initiating extradition process against the accused and also produced the letter addressed to CPO Rawalpindi before the court.

Later the court put of in this matter with directions to CPO Rawalpindi to submit reply. FIA on May 26 had issued red warrants of the accused lawyer. IHC bench was hearing in a petition filed against a senior lawyer seeking his arrest who allegedly raped his niece alongside an accomplice, made a video of the incident and then fled out of country.

As per FIR registered with the New Town Police Station of Rawalpindi on September 30, 2013, Tariq Mehmood vice president, Fateh Jang Bar Association forcibly raped her niece Maryam Jehangir a student of MBBS final year, along with an accomplice Abdul Hameed Butt.

The petitioner, mother, of Maryam Jehangir has been seeking from the IHC to order procuring arrest of the accused through Interpol.FIR alleges that both the accused made video footage of the incident to blackmail the victim girl in order to keep her silent.

Maryam, a resident of Gujranwala was residing in the house of her aunt Shazia Samad advocate, spouse of the accused Tariq Mehmood and at the time of incident Maryam’s aunt has been in England.

Police arrested the accomplice Abdul Hameed Butt who later applied post arrest bail that was rejected by additional district and sessions judge of Rawalpindi. Maryam’s mother has filed this petition before the IHC and she alleges that when police started investigating the matter, accused, Tariq Mehmood, obtained a protective bail from the Peshawar High Court and the meantime he escaped from the country.The Petitioner has prayed to the court to direct FIA to arrest the accused with the help of Interpol.
