KARACHI: Police on Sunday detained former husband of a woman who along with her eight-year-old daughter, her tenant and her minor son was found dead in their apartment off Abul Hasan Ispahani Road on Saturday.
Malir SSP Dr Najeeb Khan told a press conference at his office that police had arrested Nasir, former husband of murder victim Haseena, in Nazimabad for interrogation. The late Haseena had recently rented out a portion of her apartment in the Shoppers Plaza to a couple and their minor son.
The official said that police suspected that all the four had been poisoned to death.
The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where their post mortem examination was carried out in the wee hours of Sunday.
Additional police surgeon Dr Rohina Hasan said that doctors had reserved their opinion on the cause of death. The victims’ blood samples had been taken and sent to a laboratory for chemical examination, she said.
Dr Hasan said the bodies were around four to five days old and at an advanced stage of decomposition. There were no injury marks on the bodies, she added.
Sohrab Goth DSP Khalid Khan said that identity of the tenant and her minor son could not be ascertained immediately and her husband had also disappeared after the murders. Police were trying to track him down for interrogation, he said.
Mr Khan said that Nasir had told investigators that he had divorced his wife and their elder son lived with him who had visited the mother on the third day of Eid. Since then they had no contact with her, he said quoting Nasir.
Mr Khan said that police were now focusing on possible involvement of the missing husband of the tenant in the murders.
