Quetta, 27-Jan-2026 (PPI): Residents across much of Balochistan are being warned of an impending severe cold wave, with the Meteorological Department's Quetta Regional Centre forecasting night temperatures to plunge as low as -7°C over the next 48 hours.
The weather advisory, issued on Tuesday, predicts that a "very cold to severe cold and dry" spell will grip most parts of the province. A significant chill effect is anticipated during morning hours in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Mastung, and Kalat districts, where the sub-zero temperatures are expected.
This forecast follows a period of wet weather, with authorities also predicting light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over hilly areas in the immediate 24-hour period. Locations including Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, Chaman, Pishin, Mastung, and Qilah Abdullah are expected to experience this precipitation within the next 12 hours.
The preceding 24 hours saw considerable winter precipitation across the region. Ziarat recorded the heaviest snowfall with 12 inches, while Quetta City received 4.8 inches and Kalat saw 2.0 inches of accumulation.
Widespread rainfall also occurred, with Noshki and Quetta's Samungli area each registering 17.0 mm. Significant downpours were also recorded in Dalbandin (16.7 mm), Jiwani (16.0 mm), Pasni (16.0 mm), and Zhob (12.0 mm).
During the last 24 hours, the lowest temperatures were recorded in Kalat and Ziarat, both of which dropped to -3.0°C. Quetta's temperatures hovered around -1.0°C. In contrast, coastal areas remained milder, with Lasbela and Uthal reaching a high of 23.0°C.
