Protest over school’s closure

DIR: Residents of Panakot area in Upper Dir district on Saturdayprotested the merger of a middle school for girls with a high school and demanded resumption of classes in the middle school.

Girl students were shifted to a recently constructed Government Girls’ High School in Panakot and a middle school for girls was closed.

The residents said girls were now facing difficulties as the high school is approximately one kilometre away from the middle school.

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Mohibuddin, Sarzameen and Fazal Malik and others said the middle school had been there for the last 20 years and that it should not be closed.

“The middle school for girls has a piece of land where a section for the high school could have been built. We had also offered the land for the purpose but surprisingly the authorities chose to construct the building one kilometre away from the middle school,” said Maulvi Mohibuddin, a resident of Panakot.
