Protest over police failure to recover girl

JACOBABAD: Police failure to recover a five-year-old girl from the clutches of kidnappers even after the passage of one week forced members of Hindu community and political activists to take out a procession in Kandhkot on Tuesday.

Protesters carrying placards and banners marched on city roads chanting slogans against police inefficiency in recovering the girl, Lachhmi. The girl was kidnapped last Monday while playing outside her house.

They criticised the government for its claim of protecting minorities with no action taken, whatsoever. They warned of prolonging their protest if the girl was no recovered soon.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Hindu community led by Arjan Das, Nanik Ram and Darshan Lal met DPO Mohammad Younus Chandio who assured early recovery of the girl.

DPO said that police raided Mithu Sabzoi village in the Kandhkot and Khamiso Mazari village in Kashmore and arrested seven suspected. Police believed landlord Khamiso Mazari was involved in girl’s kidnapping and was the owner of a hideout where kidnapped people were kept. However, he fled when police raided the place. Police have lodged an FIR against Khamiso and his accomplices.
