Project to promote woman garment workers rights

LAHORE:Aurat Foundation Thursday launched a project in Lahore to promote the social and economic rights of woman garment workers in Pakistan.

Explaining the details of the project, Sara Anam and Shamila Tanveer of Aurat Foundation said imparting technical and professional leadership skills in woman workers, improving professionalism, health and safety measures are the main objectives of the project. Sara said the project is also aimed at breaking the occupational segregation and precarious forms of employment for women and promoting social and economic rights of woman garment workers. She said the project will promote active participation and integration of women as well as strategies for poverty alleviation and economic justice. Hanif Ramey, General Secretary, United Labor Federation Punjab, mentioned challenges and problems faced by textile woman workers. Abdul Waheed Rehman, Director Board of Textiles Industries, emphasised the importance of empowering women workers to make a prosperous Pakistan.
