Project for restoration of girls’ education completed in Swat

PESAHWAR: Women Awareness and Development Organisation (WADO) has completed a project on restoration of girls’ education in Swat.

According to a press statement issued on Sunday, the project was completed under supervision of WADO Executive Director Zakia Noreen.

It said the project was completed with ‘unprecedented’ assistance from local elite. The organisation made 31 local religious leaders aware of women education in light of Quran and Sunnah.

It said approximately 400,000 women and girls got benefit from the project in a region where terrorists had recently announced to take back a ban on women education, allowing hundreds of girl’s schools to reopen.

The organisation also distributed literature on women’s right to education and equality. The trained religious leaders were expected to deliver speeches in Friday sermons highlighting importance of women’s education. Similarly, a peace walk was arranged to show concern over restrictions on education for women. The organisation specifically trained 15 media persons to create awareness of women’s education in society.
