Probe ordered into kidnapping of women ‘by PPP leader’

Karachi: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday directed the Thatta SSP to conduct an investigation into the kidnapping of a woman and her daughter and entrust the task to an honest police officer not below the rank of SP.

The directives came on a petition against the kidnapping of a woman and her seven-year-old daughter, allegedly abducted by local leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party in Thatta.

The petitioner, Razia Sultana, submitted that former PPP MPA Ghulam Qadir Palejo, in connivance with the Mirpur Sakro police, attacked the houses of her family and abducted seven women, including herself, on November 29.

Later, they released five of the women and shifted Shahnaz and her minor daughter, Sanya, to another location and their whereabouts are still unknown.

The petitioner alleged that Palejo had illegally occupied 31 acres of her family’s land by manipulation of land records, which were destroyed by the accused in 2007, after the assassination of former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto.
