LAHORE: The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has recognised the master’s degree of the Punjab University’s Gender Studies Department, says a news release issued by the university spokesman on Tuesday.
The news release says the recognition of the degree will help gender studies graduates get jobs in government and semi-government organisations.
The gender studies department of the Punjab University was established in 2001 under the name Women Studies Department. In 2006, the department was merged into the Sociology Department. Later, this department was renamed as Gender Studies Department. However, a notification in this regard was issued by incumbent Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran in 2008.
The Punjab Public Service Commission had not recognised the degree despite its recognition by the Higher Education Commission.
The PU, however, presented department’s case before the PPSC and won the case.
