Hub is on fringe of Baluchistan province, bordering Karachi, having phenomenal growth of industries. Hub is growing into a metropolitan as workers from all over Pakistan throng to work in factories. To attract businesspeople from Karachi, Baluchistan government offers attractive tax benefits. Near Hub is the coastal strip of Gadani, which in addition to being a beautiful sea resort also harbors Asia’s largest ship breaking industry.
Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) organized a 3-day Journalism Training Workshop at Hub from January 13 – 15, 2004. 21 participants attended the workshop, at Hub Press Club, out of which nine were male journalists and 12 were women consisting of councilors, social workers, teachers and students. Participants took interest in workshop and showed awareness of social, political and economic issues.
PPF training team consisted of Fazal Qureshi, Chief Editor, Pakistan Press International (PPI), Saima Naz, Feature Editor, Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), and Nasrullah, PPI correspondent at Hub, who acted as organizer of the workshop.

pics as definition of news, principles of news writing, concept of Inverted Pyramid and principles of five Ws and a H. Each lecture was followed by a discussion and practical exercises. Furthermore, art of writing articles, features and letters-to the- editor was taught at workshop. At the end of the day, participants were given assignments. The last day of workshop began with a discussion on practical exercise of article writing.
The closing session was presided over by Mr. Amanullah Lasi, Executive District Officer Community Development, Hub. In his brief remarks, the Chief Guest eulogized importance of the workshop. He hoped more such workshops to be organized in rural and semi rural areas of Baluchistan. Mr. Mohammed Ilyas Kamboh, President of Hub Press Club, in his speech thanked PPF for organizing journalism-training workshop.
A participant and local woman councilor, Ms. Sughra Naz, praised workshop for introducing a new form of writing that could help women project their views in newspapers. Chief Guest, Mr. Amanullah Lasi, awarded certificates to the participants of the workshop.
