KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday ordered the police to recover a free-will marriage couple and arrest their alleged kidnappers.
A division bench comprising Justices Amir Hani Muslim and Irfan Saadat Khan also asked the police to take action against the investigation officer.
The bench was hearing a petition for the recovery of Israr Ahmed Soomro and his wife, Fakharun Nisa Narejo.
The petitioner, Ameerzadi, submitted that the police failed to recover her 24-year-old son and daughter-in-law who had been kidnapped on June 4, 2009 near Babul Ilm Masjid at the Five-Star intersection within the remit of the Shahrah-i-Noorjahan police station. She stated that she had lodged a case (FIR 314/2009) against the father and relatives of her daughter-in-law for the kidnapping of the couple, who had married of their own free will on May 15, 2009 at the City Courts.
She said that Ali Akbar Narejo, father of her daughter-in-law, and others had been named in the FIR, but the police failed to arrest any of the suspects who later obtained pre-arrest bail from the court of an additional district and sessions judge.
She submitted that the subordinate court had granted bail to the suspects without hearing the complainant.
The bench deferred the hearing till Oct 14 and ordered the police to recover the couple, arrest the suspects and produce them in court on the next date of hearing.
